Beginning Contemporary- A gentle warm-up leads you into personal and spatial awareness. Basic barre work encourages strength and accuracy. Improvisation provides creative opportunity. Across the floor and center dance brings the joy of moving to fulfillment. For new beginners or those returning to dance after several years.
Intermediate Contemporary – A quick moving class with a solid warm-up, center, across the floor work, improvisation, and a culminating phrase that is rhythmic, athletic, and exuberant. For the experienced dancer.
Intermediate/Advanced Contemporary – This class generally builds on the Intermediate class, but further explores phrase work and dynamic. It is suggested that dancers take both Tuesday and Thursday to derive maximum benefit. For experienced and professional dancers.
Floor/Barre – Sound floor work leads the dancer into awareness and connects directly to activities at the barre, which encourage technical accuracy. The class culminates in a short phrase. For beginner through professionals returning to dance or desiring personal time to focus on their dance technique.
Beginning/Intermediate Jazz – A class combining intermediate level dancers and beginning students who have previously studied dance. Classes incorporate a blend of jazz and contemporary; combinations across the floor build from week to week.
Beginning Tap – The summer class is a beginner beginner’s class. So if you have never tapped before and would love to explore rhythm tap, now is the time to do so! Students should wear comfortable clothing and tap shoes.
Intermediate Tap- This class is for students with at least one year tap experience or the equivalent. Students should be familiar with basic tap vocabulary and variations. Emphasis is on technique, rhythm and musicality.
Advanced Tap- This class is for tap teachers and advanced tap dancers. Students should have strong technical skills and excellent musicality. A variety of tap styles will be covered.
Adult Class Description
Get ready to move to the fullest, from the inside out, be challenged, express yourself through contemporary dance! Classes for movers, non-movers,dancers, non-dancers, children, adults, seniors, and professionals.
BODY STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING: This class will focus on building lean body mass, decreasing body fat and gaining functional muscle strength. It will be achieved through light weight resistance, functional movement and cardio intervals. All will be done in a fun and comfortable small group setting with the instruction of a personal trainer focused on kinesthetic awareness and movement.
CONTEMPORARY DANCE CLASSES: The class includes a thorough technical warm-up, phrases designed for agility to each level of technique, and improvisation, musicality and qualities of movement are explored in depth. The interweaving of a variety of music including jazz, percussion, contemporary and classical encourages full and challenging movement and individual expression.
§ BEGINNING - no experience is necessary
§ INTERMEDIATE - requires a solid foundation of technique.
§ ADVANCED - It is recommended that students enroll in both the Tuesday and Thursday class as Thursday builds upon the work on Tuesday.
FLOOR/BARRE PLUS: For beginner and experienced students alike. Stretch and strengthen exercises on the floor are applied to contemporary barre work plus a short dance phrase to conclude the class. No dance experience necessary.
JAZZ: Classes incorporate a blend of jazz and contemporary; stating with center-floor warm-up and technique exercises to combinations across the floor that will build from week to week. Combinations change every 3 or 4 weeks to expose students to variety of styles using many genres of music.
§ ELEMENTARY/BEGINNING is for those with little or no experience.
§ BEGINNER/INTERMEDIATE is for the more experienced dancer - this class has a more advanced curriculum of technique and combinations.
TAP- An emphasis on rhythm, musicality, proper tap technique and traditional tap styles includes Waltz clog and Soft Shoe.
§ BEGINNING - little or no previous tap dance training.
§ BEGINNING/INTERMEDIATE - builds on beginner skills and rhythms. Combining shuffle and flap patterns, turns, time steps and drawbacks are part of the movement vocabulary. One year of previous tap instruction or equivalent experience is recommended.
§ INTERMEDIATE - expands upon the Beginning curriculum with longer rhythmic phrases, faster and more complex footwork, various time signatures and more complex turn phrases.
§ ADVANCED - moves at a very fast pace covering various tap styles from traditional to urban contemporary with challenging turn phrases, close-to-the-floor footwork, difficult flash steps and complex rhythms. Students are expected to absorb new material at a fast pace at the advanced level.
